Super Stamps

Just when I thought that there would be no reason in the world why I would ever need to go to the post office or mail a letter, I find out that the US Postal Service is getting into the Super Hero market. As part of the 2007 Commemorative Stamp Program the US Postal Service is coming out with a Marvel Comics character stamp series.
Characters included are

• Spider-Man
• The Incredible Hulk
• Sub-Mariner
• The Thing
• Captain America
• Silver Surfer
• Spider-Woman
• Iron Man
• Elektra
• Wolverine

Also included in the collection with the ten characters are ten covers featuring the characters

• Amazing Spider-Man #1
• Incredible Hulk #1
• Sub-Mariner #1
• Fantastic Four #3
• Captain America #100
• Silver Surfer #1
• Marvel Spotlight #32 (Spider-Woman)
• Iron Man #1
• Daredevil #176 (Elektra)
• X-Men #1

Here's a quote from Geek Speak about the X-men #1 being featured:

About the only curious item is "X-Men" #1. Saunders notes it's the one from 1963. Thing is, we all know Wolverine wasn't in that issue.
Whatever. If you can get a stamp of the first X-Men comic and a stamp of Wolverine, so much the better.

I think is totally awesome that the Post Office is doing this, I just might have to start collecting stamps.

As a bit of old news, last July the Post Office came out with DC Comic stamp commemorative series.

News FOUR You

In a recent interview with the iFMagazine.com, Michael Chiklis talked about playing The THING in the Fantastic Four: Rise of teh Silver Sufer. Here is part of what he had to say:

What's fun about this time around, we didn't have to lay down the same amount of origin tale track. We could just get right into it. In this kind of situation they have to take certain liberties with the original, but it still adheres to the point where any hardcore FOUR fan is going to be satisfied and SILVER SURFER fans are going to be psyched out of their minds. Weta is doing the effects and they're an impressive house, just what I've seen so far of their effects is spectacular.

I think this movie is going to be totally awesome, just from watching the teaser trailer. It will be interesting to see what else they will reveal about the movie in the trailers to come. Check out the link above for the full article.

FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Just in case you didn't know, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is coming out in theaters June 15, 2007 (but if you are here reading this post you probably already knew this). I have known that this movie was coming for quite some time now but what got me really excited was the first preview for the movie. Check it out here at quicktime trailers website. I have to admit that I don't know too much about Silver Surfer, basically I knew that he was all silver and rode around on a surf board; but after seeing the preview, I caught the Silver Surfer wave. I'll give you the basic run down from Marvel.com:

Silver Surfer:

One of the noblest and most tormented cosmic entities in the universe, the Silver Surfer treasures freedom above all else, but has often sacrificed his liberty for the greater good.

The Silver Surfer wields "the power cosmic," absorbing and manipulating the universe's ambient cosmic energies. He can augment his strength to incalculable levels, and is almost totally indestructible. He can navigate space, hyperspace and dimensional barriers, and can fly at near-limitless speeds on his board, entering hyperspace when he exceeds light speed.

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it come to the Surfer. You can read more about him here. I really hope that the movie does well, if the preview is any indication of what the movie will be like (it should be, that's the whole point of a movie trailer) I think it will do well. At least it will be cool to watch a guy fly through the air on a board, like a glorified Back to the Future hover board. I will try and update the blog with any major news or reviews I find about the movie.
