The latest news on the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, is that Katie Holmes will not be returning as Rachel Dawes. This is what her representative, Julie Polkes, said:
We never got to the negotiating stage" for the film. Katie was offered ["Dark Knight"] but was unable to accept the role because of scheduling conflicts. She was in the process of negotiating for another project.
This is is one thing that really bugs me about super hero movies, all the same actors should continue being their characters. If an actor desides to take on a role they should see it through to the end even if that involoves additional movies. The Spiderman movies are a perfect example of the ways things should be; all the same actors are continuing to play their roles in all the movies and look how well the movies have done (and will do).
Additional news about The Dark Night casting is that it has been offically anounced that Harvey Dent (aka Two Face) will be in this movie, no wor yet on who will be playing the role.
As of January 11th the film has been in pre-production.
